Eg 3 'One Sound to One
Symbol' (at
a time) approach.
Students write and read their first sentences in the
very first unit. The program is accumulative, with
consolidation built in. The instructions are in the
form of suggested dialogue, so aides and parents
unfamiliar with teaching phonics can learn as they go.
Phonics Unlimited is a totally integrated program that
covers sight words, blending skills, spelling rules,
punctuation, simple grammar, homophones, vocabulary,
word building, reading practice, dictation &
comprehension.
There are a number of
separate but complementary components in the series.
While all of the components (apart from the Phonics
Unlimited Review work sheets) can be used as 'stand
alone' resources, it is recommended that all of the
components are used in order to yield optimal results.
There are 4 levels to
the program covering word complexity from 'cat to
catastrophe' and punctuation from full stops to
colons.
Components:
Diagnostic
Assessment - finding an entry Unit (pre-test)
& thereafter as a post-test
'Sound
Cards' - for introducing a new sound
'Code
Links' work sheets for learning how to 'crack the
code'
Spelling
work sheets to support the blending of sounds into
written words
Reading
work sheets to support sound blending for reading
& increase fluency
(includes
new and previously learned sight words)
Review
work sheets - 2 purposes (revision / interim
assessment at the end of each Unit)
